Getting started
Is Club Timer free?
Yes. There's no price, no subscription, no ads and no account to create.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Open timer.luklalogic.ai/app in any modern browser and it works. You can add it to your home screen from the browser's share menu so it opens like an app.
The iPhone and Android apps add speaker nudges on Apple Watch and Wear OS, scanning QR codes with the camera and on-device speech recognition. They're coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, once you've opened it. Timing, the agenda, speakers and the summary all work offline. Live sharing and speaker nudges need a connection.
Is Club Timer made by Toastmasters International?
No. Club Timer is an independent app made by Luka Logic LLC. It follows standard Toastmasters timing practice, but it isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Toastmasters International.
Timing
What are the default time limits?
Green is the minimum, yellow is the warning and red is the maximum:
Ice Breaker 4:00 / 5:00 / 6:00. Prepared Speech 5:00 / 6:00 / 7:00. Longer Speech 7:00 / 8:00 / 9:00. Extended Speech 8:00 / 9:00 / 10:00. Evaluation 2:00 / 2:30 / 3:00. Table Topics 1:00 / 1:30 / 2:00. Functionary report 2:00 / 2:30 / 3:00.
The full table is in the app under Settings → Rules & tips.
How does the 30-second grace rule work?
A speech that ends more than 30 seconds before green, or 30 seconds or more after red, is marked as disqualified, as in contests. Finishing within 30 seconds before green is marked Short, and up to 30 seconds after red is marked Over.
Table Topics is the exception: there's no grace below the minimum, so an answer under 1:00 is disqualified.
Can I set my own times?
Yes. When you add or edit a speaker, choose Custom (or tick Custom time limit) and type the green, yellow and red times as 5:30 or 5.5. Tick "Save as a speech type" to keep it in the speech type list for next time. Saved types are stored on that device, and you can delete them under Rules & tips.
A speaker went over by accident. Can I restart their timer?
Yes. Restart resets the current speaker's time to zero, and Previous goes back to the speaker before. Both are at the bottom of the Timer tab.
Will my phone go to sleep during the meeting?
No. Club Timer keeps the screen on while the meeting is running. If you've tapped "This is me" for your own speech, the app lets the phone lock while you speak so it can stay in your pocket.
Speaker nudges and Apple Watch
How do speaker nudges work?
The speaker joins the shared meeting in the Club Timer app and taps "This is me" on their speaker card. When their timer reaches yellow their phone buzzes once, at red twice, and three times once they're 30 seconds past red.
Do I need a watch app?
No. The nudges are ordinary notifications from the Club Timer phone app. When the iPhone is locked or in a pocket, iOS shows them on the paired Apple Watch, which taps your wrist. Android phones send them to a paired Wear OS watch.
If the nudge shows on your phone instead of your watch, check that the iPhone is locked and that Club Timer notifications are turned on in the Watch app.
Can I use nudges to practise on my own?
Yes. Add yourself as a speaker, tap "This is me", start the timer and put the phone in your pocket. Your phone schedules the nudges itself, so you don't need to share the meeting or have a connection.
Why can't I tap "This is me" in the browser?
Web browsers can't reliably send notifications to a locked phone or a watch, so nudges are only in the iPhone and Android apps.
Live sharing and co-hosts
How do members follow the meeting?
Tap Share on the Timer tab. Members can scan the QR code with their phone camera, open the link, or enter the meeting code in Club Timer under Join a live meeting. They don't need an account.
What can members do once they've joined?
They can look at every tab: the timer, the agenda, the speaker queue and the summary. Nothing they tap changes the meeting. If you make them a co-host, they can also run the timer and edit speakers and the agenda from their own device.
How do I make someone a co-host?
Open Share while the meeting is shared. Under People following, turn on Co-host next to their name. Turn it off again to make them a viewer, or remove them from the meeting entirely.
What happens when I stop sharing?
The shared copy, the list of people who joined and any push tokens for nudges are deleted from our server straight away. If you forget, everything is deleted automatically 24 hours after the last update.
Agenda and speech analysis
Which agendas can Club Timer import?
The "Print Agenda" PDF from a club website such as toastmastersclubs.org works best. You can also take photos of a paper agenda, one page at a time. Always check the names on the review screen before importing.
Live analysis shows no words. What's wrong?
Allow microphone and speech-recognition access for Club Timer in your device settings, and check that Live analysis is turned on in Settings. In a browser, use Chrome or Edge.
How accurate is the filler-word count?
It's a good guide, but it depends on the microphone and how noisy the room is. The Ah-Counter can use it as a starting point and adjust the final numbers.
Privacy
Where is my data stored?
On your device. Meetings, speakers, transcripts and settings never leave it unless you share a meeting, and then only the meeting itself is shared (never audio or transcripts).
Does Club Timer record audio?
No. With Live analysis on, speech is turned into text by your phone's built-in speech service, and the text is analysed and kept on your device. In Chrome and Edge, the browser's speech service processes the audio. We never receive audio or transcripts.
How do I delete my data?
Stop sharing to delete the shared copy, use Settings → Clear meeting for what's on your device, or uninstall the app. The full steps are on the support page, and the privacy policy has the details.
